How pivot points are calculated
Pivot points turn the previous bar's high, low and close into a ladder of reference prices. The classic pivot is the average of high, low and close; resistance and support levels are projected from it using the bar's range. Fibonacci pivots use 38.2, 61.8 and 100 percent of the range, Camarilla pivots cluster tightly around the close for intraday mean reversion, Woodie's pivots weight the close more heavily, and DeMark's pivots depend on whether the bar closed up or down, which is why they only give one support and one resistance.
Hourly pivots come from the last completed hour and change every hour. Daily pivots use the previous trading day, which for gold runs from 6 PM to 5 PM Eastern Time, and weekly pivots use the previous week.
